Wimborne Food Festival

Coward by name, not by nature!
James Coward of Les Bouviers Restaurant with Rooms has just celebrated his 21st year in business. This demonstration provides a 'sneak peek' into how using quality produce and a keen eye for detail can create culinary masterpieces and give away some of the secrets of having run a successful restaurant for two decades.
Les Bouviers celebrates its 21st Birthday
From its humble beginnings on Oakley Hill to its current leafy opulence on Arrowsmith Road, Les Bouviers has come a long way in the last 21 years.
We could not let this anniversary go by un-noticed, so on Friday 20th May we celebrated this 21st Birthday with a spectacular 4-course dinner. Friends, family, colleagues and guests joined with James and Kate to mark this wonderful occasion in true Les Bouviers style. A tremendous evening was enjoyed by everyone. Thank you for your support.
Young Chefs win work experience
Petite she may be, but when it comes to demonstrating her culinary skills 15 year old Gemma Hart from Corfe Hills School, Broadstone, certainly stands tall. She scooped the top prize in the East Dorset round of the Rotary Young Chef competition to take the silver salver and £60.00 worth of vouchers, both provided by the event sponsor Waitrose at Wimborne.
Cristina Stone from West Moors Middle School, the youngest of the young chefs taking part in the event, staged at Ferndown Upper School, took second prize, £40.00 worth of Waitrose vouchers.
Gemma and Cristina move on to the next round of the national competition which culminates in a national final with a top prize of £250.00 plus a trip to the olive groves in Italy. In addition, both have been offered the opportunity of a week’s work experience in one of Dorset’s top restaurants – Wimborne based Les Bouviers.
Harry Troughton from Milton Abbey School, Blandford Forum, took third place, winning Waitrose vouchers to the value of £20.00.
Speaking at the prize giving, department manager Tom Berry from Waitrose at Wimborne said: ‘I was totally bowled over by the high standard of cuisine demonstrated by all of the young chefs in the competition. It was truly impressive.’
‘Based on what I have experienced today, I would certainly hope that Waitrose continues to sponsor what I consider to be a first class event,’ he closed.
Gemma’s winning menu – Starter: Mackerel pate served with soda bread roll.
South West Chef of the Year Finalist.
James was out of the kitchen in August doing his first cookery competition in nearly 8 years. Travelling to Ashburton in Devon, James was a finalist for South West Chef of the Year. It was a closely fought ‘cook off’ to produce sublime food using local seasonal produce and he finished in a very respectable 2nd place.
Perhaps this has re-ignited his passion and he we will start filling the trophy cabinet once more? lets hope so!
